Toy balloons
There is a coincidence in this booking that is worth pausing on. MRF began in 1946 as a small shed near Madras turning out toy balloons. It took until 1952 for the company to move into tread rubber, and rather longer to become one of the largest tyre manufacturers in the world. The thing that made it was not the balloons. The balloons were just what was in the shed at the time. Victoria’s parents bought her instruments as toys. She had started reproducing nursery rhymes by ear on a phone app at the age of three, and the instruments that followed were treated as playthings rather than as a curriculum.
