Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], November 27: For over a decade, India’s digital ecosystem has undergone remarkable evolution, from the inception of the Digital India initiative to the rise of a tech-savvy consumer base. Now, a transformative opportunity has emerged for Indian businesses to redefine their online presence and security: the New Generic Top-Level Domain (gTLD) Program by ICANN.

The 2026 round of applications for new domain extensions, commonly known as gTLDs, is being hailed as a rare and strategic window for brands to establish exclusive digital identities. According to industry experts, this opportunity comes once in a decade, with the previous round having taken place back in 2012. The next round’s date remains uncertain, making this the moment for Indian businesses to act.

The 2026 round of applications for new domain extensions, commonly known as gTLDs, is being hailed as a rare and strategic window for brands to establish exclusive digital identities. Unlike legacy TLDs like .com or .net, which are generic and widely shared, new gTLDs allow businesses to create personalized extensions like .brand or .company, eg: .GOOGLE or .DABUR offering enhanced security, exclusivity, and direct branding opportunities. According to industry experts, this opportunity comes once in a decade, with the previous round having taken place back in 2012. The next round’s date remains uncertain, making this the moment for Indian businesses to act.

Why It Matters for Indian Brands

India was not a passive observer in the 2012 round. Leading companies, including Reliance Industries (.ril), Jio (.jio), and the State Bank of India (.SBI), secured custom TLDs. The impact, particularly for SBI, was significant: the bank migrated its online operations to bank.sbi domain name, drastically reducing phishing attacks and increasing consumer trust.

“Moving to.SBI created a secure and trusted digital environment for both SBI and its customers,” explains Venkatesh, a senior consultant with Dotup’s NewgTLDprogram.com, who has worked with brands during the 2012 round and poised to help Indian Brands apply for their .Brand TLD in the upcoming New gTLD Next Round 2026. “This level of control over your digital identity cannot be achieved with conventional domains like .com or .in”, said Venktatesh.

Startups, Big Brands, and Digital India

The 2026 gTLD round aligns perfectly with the aspirations of Digital India, particularly for startups and businesses focused on innovation. A custom TLD provides more than just a unique web address–it offers enhanced security, greater brand recognition, and a platform for customer-centric services.

“Imagine an Indian startup in fintech owning .PAYTM or a giant like Aditya Birla consolidating its digital assets under .BIRLA TLD,” says Venkatesh. “It’s a long-term investment in digital trust and operational efficiency.”

The opportunity is also pivotal for smaller brands and regional businesses. As highlighted by MeitY and NIXI, ICANN’s Applicant Support Program can provide financial and technical assistance to eligible businesses in developing economies like India, ensuring inclusivity in this transformative process. At a recent roundtable conference held in New Delhi on November 5th, MeitY and NIXI discussed strategies to help Indian businesses navigate the upcoming New gTLD round, emphasizing the importance of leveraging the Applicant Support Program to make global digital opportunities accessible to regional players.

A Global Opportunity for Indian Innovation

In the 2012 round, ICANN received 1,930 applications globally, with Indian companies contributing significantly. The 2026 round is expected to surpass this, given the growth of India’s economy and its burgeoning digital ecosystem. According to a report by NIXI, securing a custom TLD can help local businesses establish global credibility, much like geographic TLDs such as .nyc and .rio have done for cities.

Experts Urge Early Action

Industry leaders emphasize the importance of acting early. “This isn’t just about filling out a form,” says Venkatesh. “Applicants must demonstrate operational readiness, technical capability, and a clear strategy for using their TLD. New gTLD Consulting experts who understand ICANN’s requirements can make or break your application.”

For Indian brands, the 2026 round represents an unprecedented chance to future-proof their online strategies and leverage the power of a custom TLD to secure consumer trust, mitigate cyber threats, and streamline their digital footprint.

As India continues its journey toward becoming a global digital powerhouse, the ICANN New gTLD program may well be the key to ensuring Indian businesses lead–not follow–on the global stage.

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], November 27: All India Union Bank Officer Staff Association (AIUBOSA) is a trade union affiliated to All India Bank Officers’ Association (AIBOA) which is one of the constituents of United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU). Having its office in Chennai, the association under the supervision of its general secretary D S Ganesan keeps leading from the front when it comes to matters related to bank officers.

What distinguishes this trade union from others is the way it keeps working for the rights and benefits of the officers. While the union continues to evolve according to the changing socio-political, economic, and technological environment; it never compromises from its core values. All its decisions are guided by key ethos of equity, equality, justice, transparency, uniformity, consistency, and integrity. For it, quality matters over quantity when it comes to adding members to the association. Its top leaders are not only knowledgeable and multi-talented but also devoted to the cause of bankers and the nation as a whole. In the ever-evolving technological landscape, AIUBOSA marks its presence on Facebook, X (Twitter), YouTube, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Telegram while also having its own website.

Some of the major reforms that are brought about by AIUBOSA are:

  1. Proper distribution of vacancies under normal and fast tracks.
  2. Reduction of career path of marketing officers and rural development officers up to scale 2 only.
  3. Implementation of Govt. of India guidelines and Board approved policies in transfer postings.
  4. Bringing out lacuna in promotion process and intervening at the right time.
  5. Stopping the lateral transfer of women officers throughout the country (the court case is under progress).

But these are not the only feathers in the hat of All India Officer Staff Association. Through its legal interventions it has benefitted officers across the public sector banks in India. Some of the prominent changes that became possible only because of AIUBOSA are:

  1. Communication of appraisal marks to the officers.
  2. Officers now have the right to appeal against the appraisal marks allocated and get them reviewed.
  3. Unlike the previous conditions, now an officer has to fetch only 75 marks on an average in the last 3 years appraisal in order to appear for the promotion process.
  4. Reduction in debarment period from three years to one year only in case of refusal of promotion.
  5. Halting of direct scale 3 recruitments in PSBs.
  6. Inclusion of batch concept in the promotion process (regardless of date of joining, candidates belonging to same batch will be eligible to appear in promotion process).

In the last decade, AIUBOSA has been showing the way when it comes to issues of officer cadre on national level. The union is committed to:

  1. Protect the public sector character of the PSBs.
  2. Achieve regulated working hours for bank officers.
  3. Bring 5 days banking with all Saturdays off.
  4. Better wage revision for the bank officers.
  5. Maintain the job safety of public sector bankers.
  6. Removal of anomalies in the promotion and transfer exercises.
  7. Conversion of specialist officers to generalist stream as per Govt. of India guidelines.
  8. Ensure transparency and equal opportunity for all officers.

Some of the prevalent issues troubling the Indian banking sector are: frequent reforms by the govt., lack of RBI monitoring and control, private and foreign players dominating in govt decision making, privatization and merger of banks, non-action on major defaulters, coercive attitude of bank managements, uncontrolled disbursal of loans without security, manipulation of financials and performance data of the banks, departure from core-banking to “we also do banking”, acute shortage of staff, indifference to concerns and wellbeing of the employees, pressure through targets/punishment/daily reviews, ever deteriorating work culture, lack of well-defined policies and their implementation, media maligning the brand image of PSBs, and so on. Despite these challenges, AIUBOSA is committed to fight for the bank officers and holds the view that being a mute spectator will only increase the gravity of the already alarming situation. If the nation has to progress its financial sector has to perform well, which is impossible without the PSBs doing good.

At the end, one can only say that for any matter pertaining to the rights and welfare of the bank officers’ community, the union is paving the way through its gen-next leaders under the charismatic guidance of its General Secretary who imbibes integrity and dedication across the association. AIUBOSA believes in bringing positive change through active participation of officers and work without fear or favor to anyone.

Leadership Workshops have been conducted all over the World for Executives of all levels and we, in the corporate world know by now the styles of leadership as Democratic, Authoritarian, Delegative, Transactional and Transformational. While these form the basis of a good leadership, but we must realise what makes Ratan Tata stand out from the rest? Let me explain!

I, Pria Warrick, a Clinical Psychologist and a Soft Skills Celebrity trainer, recently, while conducting a workshop at the Indian Naval Academy in Kunnur, Kerala, was struck by a documentary depicting the heroic actions during the Pulwama terrorist attack. The footage captured a Major heroically running into flames to save lives, showing unwavering courage as he comforted injured soldiers and coordinated their rescue. He earned a Medal of Honour for his bravery, but it sparked a profound question in my mind: what drives someone to risk their life for others?

In the military, we honour self-sacrifice with medals. In contrast, the corporate world often rewards those who prioritize personal gain over team welfare with bonuses. So, does this mean military personnel are inherently better humans? Not necessarily! It’s all about the environment. Today, if we question the Major, why he acted so selflessly, he might simply say, “They would have done it for me too.”

Where do these feelings of trust and co-operation come from. Firstly, these are feelings and not instructions. You can’t instruct people to trust and co-operate.

To understand this, let’s take a step back in time. Thousands of years ago, humans faced constant threats—wild animals, harsh weather, and scarce resources. To survive, they formed social networks—a “circle of safety” within tribes, where trust and cooperation flourished. While some guarded the tribe at night, others slept peacefully, knowing they were protected.

Now, let’s relate this to the Modern world. We are still surrounded with dangers, like- economic fluctuations, uncertainty of job and business insecurity. Uncertainty of Stock Market, Pandemic, or a new business startup that renders your business obsolete, or a competitive world that makes you insecure and frustrated because it steals your growth. We have no control over these forces.

So how can leaders foster a sense of safety and belonging in their organizations?

During a conversation with Ratan Tata about how his company managed to keep paying salaries during the COVID-19 pandemic—while many Western leaders opted for layoffs—he simply stated, “My dear Pria Warrick, our people are our strength.” This profound insight made me realize that constantly battling with our own people within the organisation can lead to organizational catastrophies.

This brings us to an innovative leadership approach I like to call the “Parenting Style in Leadership.” A parent like Ratan Tata would never abandon his children (staff). A parent would never lay off his children, but would in times of crisis provide opportunities, trainings, guidance, confidence and coaching to non-performers, whereby a sense of belonging is instilled by a leader which results in a collective team.

In times of financial strain, while many leaders opt to cut jobs for some, what if we considered reducing salaries for everyone instead? This nurturing leadership style not only preserves jobs for all, but also fosters teamwork and loyalty among employees. This is what a parent would do. Think- More teamwork with faithful employees, along with a feeling of brotherhood. Wow! A workplace with very little conflict.  So, let’s embrace this new style of Parental leadership—one that nurtures rather than divides!

A Leader is one who knows his way, goes that way and shows the way by keeping his team safe and secure.

In a rapidly evolving India, where attitudes toward sexual health are shifting, e-commerce platforms are leading the in making contraceptives accessible and breaking down societal barriers. condombazaar.com, a discreet online marketplace specializing in condoms and sexual wellness products, has reportedly saved Indian families a whopping Rs84,000 crores by preventing unplanned pregnancies.

This staggering number is not just a reflection of individual savings–it’s a testament to how e-commerce is reshaping the nation’s reproductive health ecosystem. CondomBazaar may be at the forefront, but the entire e-commerce landscape is contributing to this quiet revolution.

Reproductive Health and the Cost of Unplanned Births

The financial toll of raising an unplanned child is significant. Beyond basic necessities like food and housing, families face mounting expenses for education, healthcare, and day-to-day living. According to an article published on the Mint, raising a child in India costs between Rs1.5 to Rs2 crores.

“Unplanned pregnancies not only disrupt financial stability but also limit opportunities for families to grow and thrive,” according to the Condom Bazaar team. “Condoms are a small investment that can save families from lifelong economic strain.”

Take the story of Krishna, a 35-year-old shop owner from Andhra Pradesh. Growing up in a family of six siblings, he witnessed how his parents’ limited resources stretched thin, preventing all but one sibling from completing higher education. Determined to give his own children better opportunities, Krishna now relies on condoms to manage his family size, ensuring his children can pursue their dreams without financial obstacles.

E-Commerce: Breaking Barriers in Sexual Wellness

Stigma has long been a barrier to condom usage in India. Many people, especially in rural and conservative areas, shy away from purchasing condoms due to societal judgment. This is where e-commerce platforms have stepped in, offering a private and judgment-free shopping experience.

Platforms like CondomBazaar.com pioneered discreet solutions such as plain packaging, anonymous billing, and educational content to address these concerns. These features have proven to be game-changers, particularly for individuals like Sathish, a 28-year-old mechanic from Karnataka, who initially distrusted condoms. “I thought they weren’t reliable,” he says. “But reading articles online about their effectiveness convinced me to try them. Now, I always order in bulk.”

The E-Commerce Ecosystem for Sexual Wellness

While CondomBazaar has set the benchmark, the broader e-commerce ecosystem is equally significant in driving change. Major platforms like Amazon India and Flipkart have expanded their health and wellness categories to include a wide range of sexual wellness products, including condoms, lubricants, and contraceptive devices.

These platforms bring the dual advantages of convenience and privacy. Their nationwide delivery networks ensure even people in remote areas can access these products discreetly, addressing accessibility challenges that brick-and-mortar stores often cannot.

Many notable players in the market are currently integrating educational resources to complement the diverse product range they stock. Offering information on reproductive health alongside the inventory of condoms, lubricants, and supplements, these e-retailers foster a more informed and empowered consumer base.

Habit Formation and Consumer Convenience

One of the standout contributions of e-commerce platforms is their role in habit formation. By introducing bulk purchase options and subscription models, these platforms encourage consumers to make condom usage a regular part of their lives.

For Rajesh, a property broker from Uttarakhand, this innovation has been transformative. “Earlier, I only bought condoms when I needed them urgently,” he shares. “Now, thanks to bulk purchasing and discreet storage cases, I never run out. It’s become part of my routine.”

Beyond convenience, value-added products like pregnancy detection kits further support safe sexual practices and build trust in contraception. These features not only enhance user confidence but also reinforce the idea that sexual health is an integral part of overall well-being.

Industry Trends: Investment and Consumer Adoption

The sexual wellness market is witnessing a surge in investment as venture capitalists recognize its untapped potential. Globally, the market is projected to reach $50 billion by 2025, with India emerging as one of the fastest-growing regions. This growth is driven by changing attitudes toward sexual health, increased awareness, and the rise of e-commerce.

According to a survey conducted by a leading market research firm, over 60% of consumers prefer online shopping for health products, citing convenience and discretion as their primary reasons. Younger demographics, in particular, are driving this trend, as they are more comfortable seeking sexual wellness products online.

This shift toward digital platforms reflects a broader change in consumer behavior, where privacy and accessibility take precedence over traditional shopping experiences. By bridging the gap between demand and supply, e-commerce is making sexual wellness products mainstream and reducing societal stigma.

Economic and Social Impact

The financial benefits of regular condom usage are undeniable. Assuming the cost of raising a child to adulthood exceeds 1.2 crores on average in most urban areas, Condom Bazaar’s 70,000 plus regular customers alone have contributed to Rs84,000 crores in collective savings by preventing unintended pregnancies and avoiding the cost of raising at least one additional child per family. This underscores how small, consistent investments in contraception yield significant economic returns. On a national scale, these savings translate into better resource allocation for education, healthcare, and infrastructure.

According to the Condom Bazaar team, “Every unintended pregnancy avoided saves not just personal resources but also national resources that can be redirected toward development.”

E-commerce platforms are also contributing to a cultural shift by challenging traditional gender roles. For decades, contraception has been viewed as primarily a woman’s responsibility, but platforms like Condom Bazaar are encouraging shared accountability. The majority of their regular buyers are married men, signalling a move toward more balanced reproductive health practices.

A Broader Cultural Shift

Perhaps the most profound change is the normalization of sexual health conversations. Platforms like Condom Bazaar, Amazon, and Flipkart are creating spaces where discussions about contraception, safe sex, and reproductive health are not taboo but necessary.

By targeting younger audiences with educational content and user-friendly experiences, these platforms are fostering a generation that is more informed, open, and responsible about sexual wellness.

According to the Condom Bazaar team, “Condom usage is not just about preventing pregnancies. It’s about empowering individuals to take control of their health, finances, and future. When individuals thrive, so does the nation.”
