Renowned educationist Sudha Gupta, with nearly three decades of experience in the field, has advocated for a paradigm shift in how we approach education. In a recent interview, Ms Sudha Gupta reflected on her extensive journey, highlighting the need for a more comprehensive approach to nurturing young minds.

Her observations over the years have brought to light a crucial aspect of student development. While many excel academically, there remains a gap when it comes to navigating real-life challenges. Ms Sudha Gupta emphasized the importance of equipping students with essential life skills beyond textbook knowledge.

“Often, we witness bright students falter when faced with life’s uncertainties,” Ms. Sudha Gupta remarked. “It’s imperative that we empower them with decision-making abilities, confidence, and effective communication skills to thrive in the real world.” With this vision in mind, she unveiled an innovative initiative titled “THE GURU’S HERE FOR LIFE” at the Presidium. This project aims to revolutionize the educational landscape by integrating life skills development into the curriculum and igniting the inner Guru through self-awareness and self-discovery.

Central to this initiative are the appointed psychologists, life coaches, and experts dedicated to crafting a specialized curriculum focused on holistic life skill-building. Through a series of interactive activities, workshops, and seminars, students will have the opportunity to hone their life skills like never before.

However, Gupta emphasised that the responsibility doesn’t solely lie with students. She urged educators and parents to participate in this transformative journey actively. “It’s a collective effort,” she stressed. “Together, we can empower our children to lead fulfilling and successful lives.”

As Chairperson, of Presidium and Mother’s Pride she continues her mission to redefine education, her message resonates deeply with stakeholders, signalling a promising shift towards a more holistic approach to education.

In the heart of Anna Nagar slums, nestled amidst the challenges of crumbling shanties and a community striving against odds, stands the Valmiki temple. Within its walls, a transformation unfolds daily, orchestrated by Pehchaan The Street School, an NGO committed to nurturing the potential of underprivileged children.

The temple’s interiors radiate vibrancy with colorful drawings adorning the walls. It’s a beacon of hope, bustling with children of diverse ages ardently engaged in learning and honing their skills.

“Even amid lack of resources, the Valmiki temple remains a hub of joyous learning,” says Akash Tandon, reflecting on the children’s unwavering dedication to their weekend classes despite the city’s challenges.

Every child here has a success story. Take Krish, a school dropout turned budding artist. His sketchbook bursts with pencil drawings of beloved cartoon characters and notable personalities. “I was a dropout but now, because of Pehchaan, I wish to study again I have joined class IX through Open School this year,” shares the determined 14-year-old.

Pehchaan The Street School’s genesis traces back to 2015 when a group of compassionate individuals – Akash Tandon, Kanika Narula, Sam Pillai, Leejo Joy, and Monika Wamdev – formed the organization. Moved by the plight of children either begging on the streets or dropping out of school due to academic struggles, these friends embarked on a mission to provide guidance and support.

Initially faced with skepticism from residents, they began with ten children, aiming not only to educate but also to nurture each child’s potential. Akash shares, “Our objective was holistic – to enable these children to build a career out of their strengths.” As Pehchaan introduced diverse activities like dance, music, art, crafts, and yoga, the initiative gained momentum. Today, it engages over 800 volunteers from city colleges, impacting 1,500+ slum children across ten centers in Delhi.

“We focus on nurturing their passions alongside academics. Our informal setup fosters confidence and communication, leading to visible transformations in behavior,” Kanika Narula  remarks, highlighting the NGO’s approach.

Pehchaan The Street School operates solely on crowdfunding, advocating for donations in the form of stationery, school supplies, and time from volunteers. College students join as interns, dedicating three months to teaching at least 24 classes. For children, like Deepak from the inaugural batch now becoming the first boy in the family to attend 12th class board exams, these volunteers serve as mentors, guiding them towards academic success and promising rewards for excellence.

“In slums, exclusion is a shared experience. By showering attention, we aim to change mindsets,” Akash emphasizes, shedding light on the transformative impact of volunteers’ attention on these marginalized children.

Pehchaan The Street School remains committed to rewriting the narratives of disadvantage, one child at a time. Through collective efforts, they aspire to build a world where every child’s potential is nurtured, irrespective of their circumstances. They offer internship & volunteering opportunities to anyone who is willing in contributing time to help an underprivileged.

In today’s digital age, the gaming industry is at the forefront of technological and creative innovations. To sustain this momentum, the industry needs a steady influx of skilled professionals who are not only passionate about gaming but also well-versed in the intricacies of game development. This is where gaming colleges, such as the Backstage Pass Institute of Gaming and Technology, are playing a pivotal role.

“When hiring, we would always prefer somebody who has done a proper course because some of these things, the more time you spend, the deeper your knowledge goes into,” said Mr. Kashyap Reddy, Founder of Hitwicket, a prominent game Development company in Hyderabad. “It’s like somebody preparing for an exam two days before and somebody who was prepared for a while. We have a strong preference for anyone who has done a full-on degree course, and we’ll go for certifications in case we don’t find someone who has done a degree in game development.”

Mr. Kashyap’s words resonate with the industry’s need for individuals who have undergone rigorous training and have a deep understanding of the gaming world. This is what gaming colleges are striving to achieve – they are committed to providing students with the necessary knowledge and skills to excel in the gaming industry.

“We hired a few interns from Backstage Pass Institute,” Mr. kashyap shared. “We hired students when they were in their third year of college, and they did a project while working with us. And finally, they got converted to full time. And now, one of the Backstage Pass alumni is actually a front-end lead. He is now mentoring a whole bunch of developers within the whole area.” This is a testament to the quality of education and training provided by gaming colleges, and how they are shaping the future of the industry.

Mr. Surya P, Founder of the Backstage Pass Institute of Gaming and Technology, echoed a similar sentiment. “As an institute dedicated to gaming and technology education, we are committed to providing students with a comprehensive understanding of the gaming industry. Our curriculum is designed to cultivate their passion for gaming while equipping them with the necessary skills to excel in this field. Our students’ success in the industry is a testament to our commitment and the effectiveness of our educational approach.”

Indeed, higher education in gaming is proving to be a game-changer in the industry. By offering specialized programs and providing hands-on experience, gaming colleges are producing professionals who are well-equipped to meet the industry’s demands. They are nurturing talent, fostering creativity, and equipping students with the skills necessary to push the boundaries of what’s possible in the gaming world.

The gaming industry is about more than just entertainment; it’s about innovation, creativity, and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. And to keep this momentum going, the industry needs professionals who understand its nuances and have the skills to drive it forward. These professionals are not just developers or designers; they are the visionaries who can conceive innovative game ideas, the strategists who can foresee industry trends, and the leaders who can steer gaming companies towards success.

The increasing complexity of the gaming industry necessitates a workforce that is proficient in multifarious aspects, from coding and graphic designing to storytelling and marketing. Gaming colleges such as Backstage Pass institute, with their focused curriculum and hands-on approach, are playing a crucial role in nurturing such talent.

In conclusion, the gaming industry and higher education have a symbiotic relationship. As the gaming industry continues to evolve, the need for skilled professionals will continue to grow. And gaming colleges, with their specialized programs and commitment to nurturing talent, will continue to play a crucial role in meeting this demand. The future of the gaming industry will be shaped by the professionals these institutes produce, and it’s safe to say that the future looks bright.

New Delhi, M+V Altios, a leading company helping international companies to expand and scale in new markets, has made remarkable strides in contributing towards Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities aimed at fostering education and sustainability in the community. The company has extended support to Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama, a school located in the remote region of Odisha, through a series of donations and initiatives that will benefit underprivileged tribal girl students.

Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama has been providing quality education to the marginalized section of society, with a current enrolment of 462 girl students ranging from standard 1 to standard 12. Recognizing the importance of education in transforming lives and creating self-sufficiency, Maier Vidorno Altios stepped forward to contribute to this noble cause.

Mr. Anant Shasini (AGM – Accounts and Administration, M+V Altios), expressed their enthusiasm about the CSR activities, saying, “We believe that education is a powerful tool for uplifting communities and fostering sustainable development. Through our initiatives, we aim to empower these bright young girls to break barriers and create a brighter future for themselves.”

One of the significant contributions made is the installation of solar panels at the school premises. This initiative is especially crucial as the remote location often experiences frequent power cuts, hindering the learning environment. With the solar panels in place, the school can now provide uninterrupted power supply, creating a conducive atmosphere for education.

Moreover, the company has gone a step further by donating a dedicated van for the school, ensuring safe transportation for students to and from the premises. The van will also be available for medical emergencies and fulfilling other basic needs of students residing in the school’s hostel. This initiative reflects the company’s commitment to the overall well-being of the students.

In addition to infrastructure support, M+V Altios has also taken measures to enhance the learning experience of the students. The company has provided donations which enables the school to maintain a skilled and motivated faculty. Furthermore, recognizing the significance of digital literacy, the company has donated computers to the school. This initiative not only promotes sustainability by reducing e-waste but also equips the students with valuable technological skills that will benefit them in the future.

Mr. Ashish Malik (Head of IT and ERP, M+V Altios) quotes, “Computers are a powerful tool for creating digital literacy. They can help underprivileged students learn new skills, access information, and find better job opportunities. By providing access to computers, we can help level the playing field and give all students a chance to succeed in the digital era.”

Another key personnel, Mr. Surinder Negi (Manager IT and ERP, M+V Altios), added, “Our commitment to CSR is deeply ingrained in our company’s values. We strive to make a positive impact on society by providing support where it is most needed, and Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama perfectly aligns with our mission.”

The company is dedicated to driving positive change in the communities it operates in, and the recent CSR activities exemplify this commitment. The company is committed to continuing its CSR work in the future.

The CSR initiative by M+V Altios sets a remarkable example of how corporate entities can play a pivotal role in uplifting communities, empowering individuals, and fostering a more equitable and prosperous society.

The  platform addresses the challenge of accessing up-to-date, reliable and accurate information about bachelor’s and master’s programs in preferred universities and countries. Verified mentors, including alums and current students, act as trusted sources, sharing personalized information and authentic student life experiences.

Initially launched for Ireland studies, Uniting has partnered with 100+ seniors and garnered over 6,000 downloads and 4,000 student interactions within two months of the Beta version launch.

After the successful beta launch, Uniting went public by unveiling the new version at an official launch event. Uniting’s Managing Director, Mr. Ilaya Bharathi, expressed his sentiments: “Having my dreams of studying abroad shattered by deceitful information was devastating! I was desperately seeking unbiased guidance and real-time insights that seemed elusive. The online information is often ambiguous, and the study abroad education agents’ advice lacks authenticity as they prioritize commercial interests, viewing aspiring students merely as’ customers.’ I know that countless aspiring students share this experience. That’s precisely why Uniting was created, with the app designed to cater to the needs of this generation. Additionally, Uniting conducted a comprehensive market survey across six states, engaging over 20,000 aspiring students looking to study abroad, further affirming these findings.”

Uniting has currently partnered exclusively with the top 200 International schools and 150 private Universities in India.”

Importance of Connecting with a Mentor

One significant finding from the survey highlights students’ concerns regarding making the wrong course or university choice, struggling to fit in on campus, and difficulties in making friends. Considering these factors, Uniting is specifically designed to provide prospective students with a free, safe, and secure platform to connect one-on-one with seniors and alums. Through these interactions, students can receive personalized support, genuine guidance, and authentic mentorship, enabling them to make well-informed study abroad decisions.

Uniting is now available for free download on the Apple App Store and Android Play Store.

The number of students moving to study abroad has witnessed massive growth over the years. Given the better quality of education, flexible education system and better career prospects, India ranks second when it comes to countries with the greatest number of students studying abroad. In 2019, this number was 800,000 and it is forecasted that the number will increase up to 1.8 million by 2024. There are many Indian students who harbour the dream of studying at a reputed university abroad. However, very few of them get to realize this dream. Simply put, they go through many complications and obstacles in the process.

UNIABROAD is one company that has been working towards making the dream of studying abroad for Indian students come alive. It is not only helping students secure admission to a university of their choice, it is also making all the necessary arrangements to ensure they do not face any issues while studying in a foreign land. UNIABROAD is the brainchild of its founder and CEO Vikas Murulidhara who wanted to create an entity that would offer adequate support to students planning to study abroad.

Talking about the vision behind UNIABROAD, the founder Vikas Murulidhara says, “What makes UNIABROAD different from companies in this segment is that we offer end-to-end support to students who wish to pursue a course of their choice in a foreign university. Apart from helping them get admission to a university and secure their visa, we also take effective measures to ensure that they feel comfortable while adjusting to a new country and university. In a way, we act as their friend, guide and support system during the entire process.”

Whenever a student is about to move abroad for pursuing a course, they seek guidance and advice from people in their vicinity. However, when you are about to do something that is new or different for you, you reach out to people who know the way. What makes UNIABROAD unique is the fact that it is a company designed and managed by alumni of international universities. They were in the same shoes a few years ago and know what you’ve been going through. Therefore, they tell you exactly what you need to do to get the best out of the opportunity you have landed.

Elaborating on the same, the Operational Manager, Tarun Kumar says, “It is quite natural for students to feel a little nervous and confused when they are about to move into a new country. The nervousness, however, will be much lesser if they get the right guidance and have some clarity about what they are getting into. A majority of our destination experts have graduated, worked or stayed abroad. As a result, we can provide students with real-world experiences. We help students realize their dream of studying in universities based in different countries like UK, USA, Ireland, France, Germany, Switzerland, Singapore, Spain, Australia and Dubai. We partner with more than 300 universities offering 100000+ courses.”

One of the things that have drawn a large number of students to UNIABROAD is the fact that the company offers a variety of high-quality services at zero cost. The company has a dedicated platform in the form of UNILEARN that helps students make the necessary preparations to qualify for their language prerequisites and improve their communication skills. This service, like any other service provided by UNIABROAD, is offered free of cost.

“We are headquartered in Oxford, UK, and have Indian offices located in multiple locations. Our corporate office is in Mysuru, Karnataka and branch office is based in Bengaluru, Karnataka. Students want counselling or guidance when they plan to apply for admission to a foreign university. However, a lot of the companies are not very accessible. We have addressed this issue and therefore, we cater to PAN India students by providing counselling and end-to-end admission support through our physical and virtual office”, says founder Vikas Murulidhara.

The success of a company such as UNIABROAD is mirrored in the success of the students it has assisted. 90% of the students, who have applied through UNIABROAD, have received significant scholarships. With the help of UNIABROAD, students can discover and apply for thousands of international scholarships and get assistance with education loans too. The mentorship provided by the company is not limited to university acceptance. With a dedicated post-admission support team, students get continued support even after their admission process so they don’t have to worry about anything. That’s how UNIABROAD is every aspiring international student’s one-stop destination.

Having set its eye on the horizon of success, UNIABROAD is marching ahead in creating a world where everyone has access to quality education.
